Condensing tankless water heaters from Navien, Rinnai and Bosch, sized and installed by TSSA-licensed technicians across Toronto, York and Durham.

Empower Home Comfort sizes and installs condensing tankless water heaters from Navien, Rinnai and Bosch across Toronto, York Region and Durham Region. A tankless unit heats water only when you open a tap, so you get continuous hot water, lower standby energy use and a wall-mounted unit in place of a 40 or 50 gallon tank. Every install is done by TSSA-licensed gas technicians, and most installations cost $3,000 to $4,500. You can buy, finance or rent. Call 1-800-375-8984.
Tankless water heaters deliver a continuous flow of hot water for as long as you need it. There’s no waiting for a storage tank to recover, and when the unit is sized correctly for your home, the hot water won’t run out.
A tank heater keeps 40 to 50 gallons hot around the clock and loses heat while it sits. A tankless unit only fires when hot water is needed, and the condensing models we install carry efficiency ratings in the low-to-mid 90s, so less of your gas bill goes up the vent.
Wall-mounted tankless units take up a fraction of the floor space of a tank, which frees up room in a basement utility area.
Already have a tankless unit that’s showing an error code or losing heat? We offer 24/7 tankless water heater repair and descaling for Navien, Rinnai, Bosch and other major brands.
| Tankless (condensing gas) | Hot water tank (gas) | |
|---|---|---|
| Hot water supply | Continuous, as long as demand stays within the unit's flow rate | Limited to what's stored (usually 40 or 50 gallons), then a recovery wait |
| Typical lifespan | 15 to 20 years with regular descaling | 8 to 12 years |
| Space | Wall-mounted, frees up floor space | Floor-standing tank |
| Energy use | No standby heat loss; efficiency ratings in the low-to-mid 90s | Heats and reheats stored water around the clock |
| Upfront cost | Higher: typically $3,000 to $4,500 installed in the GTA (unit, venting and often a larger gas line) | Lower |
| During a power outage | No hot water (needs power for controls and fan) | Atmospheric tanks keep working; power-vent tanks need power |
| Maintenance | Descale about once a year in GTA hard water; clean inlet filter | Flush sediment; check the anode rod |
| Best for | Families who run out of hot water, long showers, tight utility rooms, homeowners staying 10+ years | Lower upfront budget, simple like-for-like replacement |

Tankless units are sized by flow rate (gallons per minute, GPM), not by tank size. The key number is how much the unit has to raise the water temperature. In a Toronto winter, water comes into the house at roughly 4 to 7°C, so the heater has to work much harder in January than in July.
Most GTA homes heat water with natural gas, and gas tankless is the practical choice here. A whole-home electric tankless heater needs a very large electrical load on its own, often 100 amps or more, which most houses can't supply without a service upgrade, and it struggles with cold winter inlet water. Electric point-of-use units can still make sense for a single remote sink.
Much of the GTA has hard water, and scale builds up inside a tankless heat exchanger over time, causing error codes and temperature swings. Plan on descaling about once a year and cleaning the inlet water filter. A water softener or filtration system reduces scale and protects the unit. Annual service is included in our maintenance plans.
Prefer heating your home and water with one appliance? A combi boiler is a tankless water heater and a boiler in one unit.

Whether we like it or not, buying a system can be a big commitment but it won’t be a big deal with our affordable and short-term financing options. It also adds value to your home in case you want to sell it off in a few years time. One of the downsides is that when you unequivocally own a system then you are responsible for all maintenance and repair costs.

Most tankless water heater installations in the GTA cost $3,000 to $4,500 installed. Where your home lands in that range depends on the unit size and model, whether the gas line needs upsizing, the venting run and condensate drain, and removing the old tank. You get a written quote before any work begins, and financing and rental options are available.
It's usually worth it if you run out of hot water, plan to stay in your home 10 years or more, or want the floor space back. A condensing tankless unit costs more upfront than a tank, but it lasts about 15 to 20 years compared with 8 to 12 for a tank and has no standby heat loss. If you mainly want the lowest upfront price, a new tank is often the better fit.
Size it by flow rate, not tank size. In a GTA winter, incoming water is only about 4 to 7°C, so a typical 199,000 BTU condensing unit delivers roughly 4 to 5 gallons per minute, enough for about two showers at once. Homes with three or more bathrooms in use at the same time may need a larger unit or two units linked together.
No. Gas tankless water heaters need electricity to run the controls, ignition and venting fan, so they stop producing hot water when the power goes out. An atmospheric gas tank will keep working, while a power-vent tank also needs power.
A condensing tankless water heater typically lasts 15 to 20 years when it's descaled regularly. A gas or electric hot water tank usually lasts 8 to 12 years. Hard water shortens the life of both, which is why descaling and water treatment matter in the GTA.
Yes. Plan on descaling about once a year in GTA hard water and cleaning the inlet water filter. Skipping it lets mineral scale build up in the heat exchanger, which causes error codes, temperature swings and shorter equipment life. A water softener reduces how often descaling is needed.
As of fall 2026, Ontario's Home Renovation Savings program offers a $500 rebate on ENERGY STAR certified heat pump water heaters, but not on gas tankless water heaters. Program rules change, so check Save on Energy's Home Renovation Savings page or ask us what currently qualifies.
A tankless water heater only heats your domestic hot water. A combi boiler heats your home through radiators or in-floor heating and also supplies on-demand hot water from the same unit. If you have a hot water heating system or are replacing a boiler, a combi boiler can replace two appliances with one.
