2025 Energy Efficiency Rebates in Ontario

 

As we step into 2025, Ontario homeowners have a range of energy efficiency rebates to consider. These programs can help reduce renovation costs, enhance home comfort, and contribute to environmental sustainability. Here’s a breakdown of the current, upcoming, and concluding rebates, along with the equipment requirements for each.

 

Current Rebates

Home Efficiency Rebate Plus (HER+) Program

Offered by Enbridge Gas in collaboration with the Canada Greener Homes Grant, the HER+ program provides up to $10,000 in rebates for energy-efficient home upgrades. Eligible retrofits include home insulation, windows and doors, heat pumps, and renewable energy systems. Additionally, homeowners can receive up to $600 to cover the cost of EnerGuide home evaluations.

Equipment Requirements:

      • Insulation: Upgrade at least 20% of your attic or basement insulation to qualify.

      • Windows and Doors: Replace a minimum of three windows or one door with ENERGY STAR-certified models.

    • Heat Pumps: Install ENERGY STAR-certified ground source, air source, or domestic hot water heat pumps.

     

    Oil to Heat Pump Affordability Program

    This federal initiative assists low- to median-income homeowners in transitioning from oil heating to efficient heat pumps, offering up to $5,000 to cover installation costs.

      Home Renovation Savings Program on January 28

      Ontario homeowners can soon take advantage of the province’s new Home Renovation Savings Program, launching on January 28, 2025. This $10.9 billion initiative aims to make energy-efficient upgrades more affordable while reducing energy costs and improving home comfort.

      Key Highlights of the Program

      • Generous Rebates: Homeowners can receive rebates covering up to 30% of the costs for eligible renovations.
      • Eligible Upgrades: The program includes rebates for:
        • New windows and doors ($100 per item)
        • Insulation (up to $8,900)

        • Heat pumps (up to $7,500 for air source, $12,000 for ground source)

      Whether it’s a weekend road-trip or stay at the lake house, remember to follow some of these energy-saving tips to avoid unnecessary expenses while you’re away.

      1. Turn off the lights

      If you decide to keep any of your lights on as a security measure, invest in an automatic timer. It can be programmed to turn on your lights during late evening and early morning hours while preventing wasted energy during the day.

      2. Turn down your air conditioner

      While it’s important to keep the air circulating in your home while you’re gone, you can drastically cut down on energy usage by turning your thermostat up to 85 degrees. If you have a programmable thermostat, simply use the “vacation” feature to maintain safe and efficient indoor temperatures while you’re gone.

      3. Unplug appliances and electronics
